Four Pro-tips for Your Business Security

Posted on February 2, 2017July 31, 2019 by admin

Last year, Yahoo suffered major losses due to a cyberattack that compromised millions of accounts. The company admitted to the lack of security measures, which made their system vulnerable and a target of multiple attacks from unknown individuals.

As a business owner, you need to take extra precautions to ensure your business doesn’t suffer the same fate as Yahoo. Be more proactive in strengthening your security so your business remains safe from cyberattacks at all times.

Here are a few ways to keep cyberattacks at bay:

  1. Start Educating Your Employees about Security Measures

Lack of information among employees is one of the missteps that business owners make when it comes to their security. As employees have direct access to important files and other business data, you need to remind them to take security seriously. Train them in implementing security measures to avoid cyber breach. You should also be more stringent when it comes to policies on security to avoid vulnerabilities.

  1. Do a Layered Approach to Your Security

Think of your security as a fortress – you can’t have just one layer for its foundation. You need multiple tiers to ensure your security is impenetrable. For instance, implement multiple verification procedures to your networks to thwart cyberattacks. This can be doubled by installing security software and getting assistance from security system experts.

  1. Protect Your Most Important Assets

In line with tip #2, you need to know where your most important assets are to implement priority in security. Make an inventory of the computers and data that require extra security. Note the location of important and confidential data so you can prioritize security in those areas. Some of the most overlooked areas are networks that allow mobile access. As mobile phones are easier for security attackers to access, they use these as a gateway to get into business networks.

  1. Make Security an On-going Process

Don’t stop with just the steps above. Security should be a continuous process to ensure there are no holes that hackers can get into. Perform tests for possible entries of hackers, abnormal traffic, and attempted log-ins from unknown devices or addresses. You should also have a contingency plan in case of security failure. The more proactive you are at security, the better you can keep your business safe.

Whether you’re running a start-up or a big business, security is of the essence. Don’t make the same mistake that others are committing just to cut costs – keep an eye out for possible security attacks.
